Das Bibbern, Zittern und Hoffen liegt hinter den Absolventen der fünf internationalen Finalisten verschiedenster Design Akademien, denn die Gewinnerin des H&M Design Awards steht fest: die 28jährige Dänin Stine Riis gewann den ersten Nachwuchs-Designer Preis aus dem Hause H&M und darf in wenigen Minuten, um 14 Uhr, ihre Kollektion „Decadence & Decay“ nicht nur auf der Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stockholm präsentieren, sondern lädt auch euch ebenfalls ein, euren prüfenden Blick via Livesteam auf ihre erste Kollektion zu werfen. Stine Riis, die am London College of Fashion studierte, darf sich aber nicht nur über ganz schöne Aufmerksamkeit am heutige Tag freuen – besondere Stücke gehen auch gleich in Produktion und dürfen von euch erstanden werden. So viel darf vorab verraten werden: Leuchtende Farben, konstruierte Silhouetten und spannende Materialmixe flirten in einer ausgefallen, futuristisch anmutenden Kombination miteinander – „comfortable, modern and elegant at the same time“ – da können wir nur zustimmen und ergänzen, dass die Kollektion einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen wird. Versprochen!

Und seit gewiss, dass Jungdesignerin Riis vor dem Launch der Kollaboration ihren prüfenden Blick auf die Produktionsbedingungen legt – das zumindest hat sie uns heute früh in einem kleinem Interview versprochen. Was der dänische Kreativling vor der großen Show in wenigen Minuten sonst noch so auf dem Herzen hat, das verrät sie euch am besten selbst – in unserem Interview. 

Who are you, Stine?

Who am I? Good question. Fist of all I’m a designer. That’s what I live for.

How does it feel to be the winner of this award?

It feels great! I’m a bit nervous right now about the show. But yesterday at the fitting everything looked good.

Is it crazy to  see your own collection finished and being award-winning?

It feels like this is my baby. I spent so much time and energy and effort to make this. I stitched everything by myself, except five garments out of 30.. It was a like a big development as a designer to do this, because I finally got the chance to just design for myself, without any brand behind.

How long did it take to finish it?

Wow, let me think about that. I’m just so nervous. But, yes, it must have been 5 months of work!

What should people say about your collection?

Well, I hope they want to wear it! I design clothes for people to use it and not just to hang in the stores. I hope they get excited and they can see my vision as a designer. I hope they see it as something new and that there is space for me on the market. 

What makes your clothes unique?

I use a lot of colour, in a new way, and mix lots of materials. I’m trying to use new details as well.

Some special inspiration?

I always look at art,  modern at, but I’m constantly like a sponge. Music is important as well and all these beautiful things. You need that as a designer to constantly get input to be able to create something new.

Do you’ve got any song in mind while thinking of your collection?

Well, the last week when I was preparing the show I listened a lot the WHitest Boy Alive’s song „Courage“. It’s so beautiful.

What gives you courage in life?

Support from my family and friends. And of course this price. The award. 

Do they already know you won?

Yeah! They are so excited. I’m going to have another show in Copenhagen and everyone is coming!

Do you aks your friends, if they do like your creations?

I don’t ask them if they like it. I think as long as I feel comfortable about what I make, it’s fine.

Would you wear them personaly?

Yes, defintely!

University or yourself – who educated you the most?

I couldn’t have done this at home. The fact that in university there are people from all over the world influents you. Also the competition – you inspire each other. They actually teach you how to be a designer. But of course you need to take responsibility for yourself, too. You only learn through hard work. 

How do you handle these quite hard competitions?

Of course it can be difficult, but it’s necessary if you want to grow as a designer. Every process of learning is difficult. It takes a while to geht into something.

As a designer you of course hope to become a bit famous, even if only to spread your designs – aren’t you afraid of this process, too?

Yes, very much! Talking about myself al the time can be a bit exhausting. Yesterday I said to my boyfriend „If I start to change or get all fashion crazy, please let me know!“ It’s just I dont’t do this to become famous, I’m doing this because I like what I do. It’s good to get the PR but it’s not my priority.

Where do you shop?

I haven’† had time to shop for a long time!

So, you’re wearing your own clothes?

Yes, sometimes. It was like that like forever, cause I’m quite tall. When I was a teenager it was in fashion to wear low waste and short t-shirts. This just looked weird on me. So I started to make T-Shirts for myself with longer sleeves and stuff.

In Germany people discuss a lot about the production of H&M products…

I’m producing my collection with H&M, so I’m surely gonna go to the factories to see how they work there. So I feel really comfortable and in good hands. 

Mit ihrem Gewinn des H&M Design Awards schafft die schüchterne Dänin Stine Riis nicht nur ganz schön viel positiven Trubel um ihre Kollektion, sondern wird auch in den kommenden Monaten ausgewählte Stücke in Kooperation mit H&M und in ausgesuchten Stores verkaufen – ein Preisgeld von 50 000 Euro winkt der in den UK studierten Designerin ebenfalls und damit dürfte auch kommenden Projekten erst einmal nichts im Wege stehen. Ein Großprojekt, dass Dank des Gewinns ersteinmal sorglos realisiert werden kann: Ihr eigenes Label R II S – und im Interview kündigte Riis gleich ihre kommende Sommerkollektion für 2013 an, die im August hochoffiziell präsentiert werden soll – wir dürfen also weiter gespannt sein und halten euch selbstverständlich über den sympathischen Blondschopf auf dem laufenden.
